Double Heat Winners! Morgan Fesmire and Jacob Whiting!!!!!

Morgan and Jacob both won heats in the Derby which is very difficult to do as only 1/3 of the people in the race accomplish that feat. Unfortunately they were both defeated in round two. Here are some photos from race day.

The day starts out with a parade of the champions. Actually the day started out with severe weather and lots of rain. But in true Soap Box Derby fashion it cleared up for racing.

Here is Jacob Whiting winning his first heat. He is car number 16 in the far lane.

Here comes Morgan in her second heat on a dry track! Morgan is on the right.

Who is this guy on a luge? Austin said he was trying out the luge just in case it ever snowed a lot in Athens. Actually the olympic luge team was doing demonstrations and Austin asked to take one on a test ride. In the olympics these go 100 mph. Austin went about 20. The olympic team did some demonstrations from the top of the Akron hill prior to the race and went 55 mph. They thought it was a little slow. By the way nice helmet.
