Safety Tips
Kitchen
Check cords on all appliances
and replace any that are worn or frayed.
Do not overload outlets.
Do not leave appliance cords hanging over the side of counters
so children can't reach them and pull them down.
Turn all pot handles on the stove toward the back so children
can't reach them.
Make sure that curtains and towel racks can't contact hot surfaces
on stove.
Keep an extinguisher handy.
Allow ventilation room around microwaves so the vents have room
to breathe.
Living Room
Check portable heaters and
wall heaters to ensure that there is nothing if front of it
that can catch on fire.
Always use a fireplace screen made out of glass or metal.
Keep the chimney checked and cleaned regularly.
Make sure lighters and matches are out of reach of small children.
Never let an ashtray get too full. A full ashtray can catch
on fire from the hot cigarette embers.
Make sure that all appliances have room to breathe to prevent
overheating.
Never run extension cords under rugs or around sharp or metal
objects.
Bathroom
Do not put or use any appliances
near water.
Make sure outlets and extension cords are not overloaded.
Keep all medicines and cosmetics out of the reach of children.
Bedrooms
Make sure adequate smoke
detectors are present and functioning.
Keep a flashlight with good batteries nearby.
Make sure all family members know the fire escape plan and what
they should do in the event of a fire.
Never smoke in bed.
Storage Areas
Keep gasoline and other
flammables in tight approved metal containers.
Do not use flammable liquids near heat or in the presence of
a pilot light.
Do not keep items close to the furnace or heaters.
Keep greasy rags in sealed non-glass container
