FRANCES WITT-MCMAHAN
Council Member
Council Member Frances Witt-McMahan was elected to a four-year term on the Athens City Council in November 2020. She is married to Larry McMahan and the proud mother of two daughters, Taylor (New Orleans, LA) and Haley a student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
Local community involvement includes serving on the Athens Council Advisory Committee for three terms from 2010-2020, board member of McMinn County Habitat for Humanity from 2009-2015, Grace and Mercy Ministries board member 2009-2012, TN CASA Agency Rep 2010-2016, and currently serving on the National CASA Conference Committee. Council Member Witt-McMahan is an active member of the Tau Eta Omega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. currently serving as Chapter Host. She is also serving as Cluster Coordinator for the South Eastern Region of Alpha Kappa Alpha. Council Member Witt-McMahan also serves on the Athens Regional Planning Commission.
Council Member Witt-McMahan studied at University of TN at Knoxville with a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Minor in Christian Education. Received a Master of Arts Degree from Lee University majoring in Youth and Family Counseling and Ministry. Currently enrolled in a Program at the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee studying Social Enterprise Effectiveness.
Professionally, Council Member Witt-McMahan is the founder and Executive Director of CASA (court appointed special advocates) Corridor of East Tennessee for 14 years.
