Bo Perkinson
Vice Mayor
Vice Mayor William Bo Perkinson was appointed to fill a vacancy on the Athens City Council in February 1996. In June 1997, he was elected by the citizens of Athens to serve a full term. In November 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014 and he was re-elected to four year terms. The City Council unanimously elected Council Member Perkinson to the position of Mayor for a two year term during the Council Meeting on November 19, 2002. In November 2004, he was elected by the council to a two year term as Vice Mayor. In November 2006, 2008, 2010, and 2014 he was elected by his fellow council members to the position of Vice Mayor. Council Member Perkinson served as Vice Mayor until 2016. Council Member Perkinson has served on numerous boards and committees including the McMinn County Senior Citizens, the McMinn County Department of Juvenile Services, and Athens Parks Foundation. Council Member Perkinson, a lifelong resident of Athens, is retired from BB&T Bank and is an active member of the local Optimist Club.
Council Member Perkinson currently serves as the council's representative on the Board of Zoning Appeals and the Historic Preservation Commission, and is an ex-officio member of the Recreation Advisory Board. Additionally, Council Member Perkinson serves on the Small Cities Council Steering Committee through the National League of Cities and is on the Tennessee Municipal League Board of Directors.
